Mexican Hat Dance

Brenton and I had a long conversation last night.  We talked about the future, positive thinking, stress, happiness-- all sorts of things... for about an hour.  Some of what we talked about involved crying, which I have been doing a lot of lately, and some involved laughing.

I much preferred the laughing portion.

There was one main conclusion to our conversation:

Find happiness in every situation.

When something 'bad' happens to us, what makes us think it's bad?  What makes us upset about it?  Physically, it's not the actual act of what happened- it's how we perceived it and how we reacted to it, right?  So what if we changed our thinking to find happiness in every situation.  All of those situations, that in the past, would have made us upset.  Ergo- the Mexican Hat Dance.  You can't HELP but smile when you sing this song in your head (especially this version!).  What if you sang this to yourself anytime a stessful or 'bad' situation happened.  Would it be so 'bad' anymore?  Some would argue (and I've even heard this before) that this puts you in a fantasy land.  "Lala Land".  Out of touch with reality.  Ok, what is reality?  (full circle here, people!)

Unfortunately, I won't delve into specifics regarding WHY we were talking about this, but it makes for very exciting but very confusing situations.  If I can find happiness in EVERY situation... how do I know what my life's purpose is?   Do I know the difference between Mexican Hat Dance happiness, and non-needed Mexican Hat Dances?

What is your life's purpose?  Do you know?  Does your job reflect your life's purpose?  What about your hobbies?  Can your hobby be your job?

Have you ever read or listened to "Excuse Me, Your Life Is Waiting" by Lynn Grabhorn?  It's cheap on Amazon (like $4 or something) and a GREAT book for delving into yourself and realizing what you REALLY want.  (AND learning how to get it).  I have the 3 CD set in my car right now- I almost can't wait to drive somewhere because that's my Mexican Hat Dance happiness in traffic.  Well, actually, because of my driving angels, I haven't had much traffic lately (THANK YOU!)... so it's my Mexican Hat Dance happiness for my 30 min to and from work.

I am still on this journey, and actually, I'm not sure when I'll ever be done.  Well, yes I do know when I'll be done...   about 80-90 years from now.

And that's ok.

Cell Phone Dangers

Hello everybody.  In last month's edition of Prevention Magazine, I read an article regarding the dangers of Electromagnetic Waves.  And then recently, on the Renegade Health Show, I saw a few shows they did on the same subject (watch them).  This is crazy!!  People all day long are tied to their cell phones and tied to their wireless internet... and it could be making us all sick?!  If cell phones are doing this... what do you think your MICROWAVE is doing?!  It's really scary.  REALLY scary.  Oh, and how about those doggone body-scan things at the airports... make it stop!!!

I think this is a clear sign that we need to get back to our roots.  Back to the good old days BEFORE all of this crazy technology.  Like that's ever going to happen, right?  There are some things we can do to survive in this techno-centric world... at least help, anyway.

I did some research on the Environmental Working Group's website, and they do offer a few tips to help reduce the radiation exposure.  Things like 'buy a low-radiation phone', 'use a headset or speaker', 'hold the phone away from your body', etc.  Check out that website- there is a lot of information that we NEED to know.

I just bought THIS headset for myself and for Brenton.  It's the Plantronics MX150 Flexible Boom Headset with 2.5 mm plug... for $1.63!!!  It's normally $45... yay Amazon!!   It looks like it has a long cord, so we're definitely going to try to sit in one spot with the phone as far away as possible, or use it at home on speaker far far away from our heads.  And limit our cell and internet use.  There is so much else we could be doing with our time, anyway!!  (like making raw cookies.... mmmmm).

Moral of the story-  don't yack on your cell phone all day.  It is bad for your health.

Brenton's New Favorite!

For those of you who don't know, my husband is less than... open... to healthy food.  He's getting better, but there are still some things that he won't go near.  Like Green Powder... HA!! UNTIL NOW!!!!  (yes, I have converted him and am thrilled!)  I have found a Green Powder (haha, that's actually brown because it's Chocolate) that he'll eat, and be EXCITED about!!  He's so excited to make shakes in the evening because he has his own little blender with his frozen bananas and 'fixins', as he says!!

Brenton's Shake Recipe

1 Frozen Banana (chopped, then frozen)
1 Scoop Amazing Grass Chocolate Superfood Powder
1 Scoop Unflavored Protein Powder
1 T Peanut Butter
6 oz Organic Skim Milk
Couple of Ice Cubes

Sometimes he adds in Organic Jelly for a ''Peanut Butter and Jelly (and Chocolate)" shake... he's so creative.

Kashi Pizza

Good evening all!  The last couple of days I have felt a little bit weak and tired.  After doing an analysis, I realized that I have not been eating enough calories (especially with how active I have been shoveling snow off of the driveway, exercising, and just generally being busy).  Today, I was a-ok to change ny calorie deficit, and help get myself back up to where I need to be.  For dinner, we got some Kashi frozen pizza (Roasted Veggie, with a lot of added peppers) and tons of fruit and veggies.  ...and a not so good splurge- Original Sun Chips.  (eeeeek!!!!)  Although, they're not THAT bad... ok ok I know...

It's very important that when you are a vegetarian, and you are very active, that you get enough calories in your system.  Of course, be sure that they are high quality calories, with a lot of variety, and not only Sun Chips (...oye...).

Mushroom "Sushi" Sandwich

We've made it to Wednesday!  So here is an interesting sandwich I made for lunch over break that was surprisingly EXCELLENT!!

I call this a Mushroom ''Sushi'' Sandwich.  I made it SO quickly, and was absolutely surprised at how good it was.

1 Mushroom Cap (big- think burger)
1 t Olive Oil
1/2 Cucumber, sliced thinly
1/2 Roasted Nori Seaweed Sheet, cut with scissors
2 T Organic Soy Sauce (I have been eating this a lot lately!  SHEESH!)
Drizzle of Tahini (... and I have been eating this a lot, too!)
Bread of your choice (I used 1/2 Whole Wheat Pita Pocket)

In a small pan, over Medium heat, cook the Mushroom Cap in Olive Oil and 1 T Soy Sauce until soft (about 4 minutes?)
Layer in 1/2 Pita Pocket the cooked Mushroom Cap, Cucumber, and sliced Nori Sheet
Drizzle 1 T Soy Sauce and a little bit of Tahini
Devour.

This was surprisingly REALLY REALLY GOOD.  If I had Avocado, I would have added this because I LOVE Avocado and Soy Sauce together.  Try this-  you'll like it!

New Recipe- Tempeh Stir Fry

Hello, Tuesday!  I tried a new recipe for dinner last night- Tempeh Stir Fry.  This was completely made up, and Brenton ate the WHOLE thing... so you know it must have been good!

Recipe (serves 2 good size dinners, or 3 small):

1 Package of Organic Tempeh
2 Heads of Broccoli, chopped
1/4 C Chopped Red Onion
1/4 Water

Pepper, to taste
Drizzle of Tahini

Melt Coconut Oil in pan over Medium Heat
Chop Tempeh into small pieces and add to pan.  Cook a few minutes, until beginning to brown
Add rest of the ingredients and saute until broccoli turns bright green
Put on a plate, and drizzle Tahini on top.

This was a YUM YUM meal!!  Brenton and I both finished our plates.  So fast, so good!

Almost Raw Sushi Salad

Alright-  here it is... the first Monday after holiday break.  Case of the Mondays, anyone?  I'm hoping to make the best, and most, of today.  I know that I have a lot of work ahead of me, and the last two years on this day have been absolutely insane and stressful- so here is hoping for a calmer and organized day!

On that note- yesterday, I decided to have one of my favorite lunches, with a new twist.

Doesn't that look scrumptious!?  It's my almost raw Sushi Salad.

1 Spiralized Organic Zucchini
1 Spiralized Organic Carrot
3 Baby Bella Organic Mushrooms
1/2 Avocado
1/2 Sheet Roasted Nori Seaweed
Garlic Pepper Seasoning

Ok, holy yum, Batman!  This is one of my absolute favorite meals, and really fun to eat because of my Spiralizer

Happy Monday to you all!

Spiraling Fun!!!

I am TOTALLY IN LOVE with my new toy!

That's right!  For Christmas, my sister got me a Spiral Slicer (aka 'Spiralizer').  I LOVE IT.  Tonight, I made some CURLY FRIES!!

Isn't that fun?!  I love it.  The seasonings were all 'to taste', and consisted of Season Salt, Chili Powder, Paprika, and Black Pepper.  Tossed with a little bit of Olive Oil and baked at 350 for 18-ish minutes. A little spicy, but really good!  I haven't had 'fries' in a long time!

If you don't have a spiral slicer, and you're a veggie, vegan, raw foodie, has kids, likes to cook, or entertains with food parties, YOU NEED TO GET ONE OF THESE.  I'm in love.
